This morning I was experiencing a little road rage toward a driver who deliberately sped up to keep me from moving into her lane, and Atticus was confused about what I was worked up about, so I said that the other driver had been "mean." He said, "Not nice?" I said, "That's right. The other driver wasn't nice to us." When we got out of the car at his daycare soon after, he wanted to know who was the culprit. He pointed across the parking lot--"That car? There? There?" The car was gone, of course, but finally I just said, "Yeah, over there." He pointed his finger in that direction and shouted loudly, "That's not nice!" and said it over and over again.

Today Atticus did something I've never witnessed another kid in his toddler swim class do ever--he was about to jump in the pool, but hesitated and told me he needed to go potty. His teacher praised him for not doing it in the pool. I whisked him to the potty.

Then after swim class on the drive home, he said he had to go again, so I pulled over so he could use the potty I keep in the trunk. He did numero uno and dos in it. We have yet to have an accident on the road or when out on the town.

In recent weeks, Atticus has taken to identifying the culprit for any ouwie or other accident: "Table did it," "Piano did it," "Bat did it," "Mommy did it," "Daddy did it," and lest you think he doesn't take personal responsibility, "Atticus did it."

After flossing his teeth last night, Atticus started flossing his toes.

Today might possibly be the first time he has ever gone to the potty on his own without our telling him to or helping him whatsoever. We were in other rooms, and when I came out to check on him, he was just leaving the bathroom, his underwear still around his ankles, and he said, "I did it!" And sure enough, he had.
